WHY THE ATTACHMENT TO ATTACHMENTS? – a blog about percs and pikes
Both devices aim to improve the quality of your smoking experience, they won’t get you MORE HIGH so to speak, but they will help you get a cleaner, smoother hit. So how do they do that?
PERCOLATORS
They are usually dome shaped but come in many kinds of shapes and sizes and it is usually a secondary chamber inside the the bong tube itself.
The way it helps to make your hit smoother is by cooling the smoke by allowing a greater surface area of smoke to reach the water and putting it through a secondary filtering process, therefore reducing the nasties slightly, and improving the hit quality for the consumer.
It works another way by breaking down the bubbles, due to pressure inside the perc, again improving the quality and smoothness of a hit.
You do in fact lose a little more THC in percolators bongs but it is negligible and has nothing to do with the extra water if that’s what your thinking – thc isn’t water soluble – slightly more is lost to the glass of the extra chamber… so slight it won’t affect your high though, I promise.
For me, a downside of percs is that they are usually attached permanently to a glass piece, so cleaning can be a little tricky, but not impossible.
PIKES
Pikes also offer the promise off a cleaner, smoother hit and they use coconut and seaweed based technology to naturally improve the filtration of chemicals and nasties from a consumers hit.
Not only about about smoothness, the filtering aims to CLEAN your smoke before you ingest it, with it being 90% cleaner than without a pike, plus you get the secondary filtering when it goes through the water, and that not only improves your hit, but looks after your health long term… and for the daily consumer that has to factor in.
Pikes are 14mm and fit any male bowl. They are suitable for both flower and concentrates use. Not only that, they are easy to clean, they save you time and money (who doesnt like that) by reducing your cleaning time and expenses for your glass pieces, and are designed to last a lifetime.
Really I feel like it comes down to multiple factors in deciding which you get, like personal preference, budget and availability but if you have multiple glass pieces, why not get both?
And remember, it is always recommended to stay on top of keeping your glass pieces and water sparkling clean to aid in having the best smoking experience possible and getting the most out of your flowers high, regardless of your attachments.
